Cooking The Perfect Porterhouse Steak

Having an “I need a steak moment”? we have got you covered with this recipe! It will quickly become a staple on how you cook your steak from now on.

Ingredients

  • At least 5cm thick Porterhouse steak (extra fat trimmed)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • Salt and ground black pepper

Method

  1. Allow steak to come to room temperature 30min-1hour
  2. Preheat your Grill (Webber, barbeque, or grill you have available) with a large cast-iron skillet inside.
  3. Once your grill and skillet are very hot add the oil to the skillet and heat until smoking.
  4. Season steak very generously with salt and pepper and cook until a deep brown crust forms on the underside (do not turn), about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Transfer steak to a cutting board, turning it browned side up.
  6. Slice straight down perpendicular to the thickest edge. 2.cm thick. leaving a gap of about 2cm to the edge (do not cut all the way through)
  7. Return to skillet browned side up. 
  8. Top with butter and cook until butter is melted and steak is medium-rare 4-5 minutes.
  9. Serve the steak and top with the melted butter in the skillet
  10. Enjoy!
