Having a BBQ? This recipe will show you how to cook the best tender beef rump steak.
Rump steak is a popular cut of meat that can but used in a few different ways. One of our favorite ways is steak! This recipe does take a little preparation, but it is well worth it!

Method:
- Remove steaks from the fridge and allow them to come to room temperature at least an hour before you begin.
- Preheat oven to 180c fan-forced.
- Place a heavy-based frying pan or regular pan (if a heavy one is not available) over high heat and add a splash of vegetable oil. For the BBq, the hot plate can be used.
- Pat the steak dry with a paper towel and sprinkle both sides generously with sea salt.
- When the pan is very hot, just before the oil is at smoking point, add the steak and cook for 3 minutes on each side TIP: If there is a thick layer of fat on the outside, using tongs fry the fat-side down, so it can brown for a minute or so.
- Transfer the steak to a roasting tray and put it into the oven for 10–15 minutes.
- Remove the steak from the oven, season with pepper to taste, and rest on a plate, covered loosely with foil, for a further 10 minutes.
- Serve with any veggies, sauce, or sides you like.
