Better then the take out version!
This recipe is made with all fresh ingredients and is sure to become a staple on the menu. Serve this up with your choice of steamed or fried rice and veggies.
Ingredients
Marinade
- 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 garlic cloves finely diced
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp red chilli flakes
Chicken
- 650grams boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 2.5cm pieces or bite size
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup vegetable oil
Garnish
- 1/2 tsp sesame seeds
- 1 spring onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp orange zest
Instructions
Marinade
- In a small bowl mix water and corn starch together set aside
- In a saucepan add all marinade ingredients except for water and corn starch cook for 3-4 minutes or until fragrant.
- Add the water and corn starch and cook for a further 5 minutes until it becomes a thick sauce like consistency.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
Chicken
- On a shallow tray combine the flour, cornstarch and salt.
- In a shallow dish add eggs and whisk.
- Toss the chicken in the egg mixture and transfer to the flour mixture(make sure to wait for excess egg to drip off before transferring)
- Toss the chicken in flour mixture until fully coated and put aside on a plate.
- In a pan add the oil and once it becomes hot cook the chicken until it becomes golden brown about 2-3 minutes. You may need to do batches so there is space in the pan. (Add more oil if needed)
- Once chicken is cooked add in the marinade, sesame seeds, orange zest and spring onion.
- Serve with steamed rice and your choice of veggies.
